MARION: Larry Gene McEldowney, age 70, of 334 Edgewood Drive, Marion, passed away on Friday, February 19, 2010, at 12:25 a.m. in the Riverside Hospital, Columbus.
He was born in Marion, Ohio on October 29, 1939 to the late William James and Jennie May (Thomas) McEldowney. Larry served in the U.S. Army from March of 1963 until March of 1965.
On August 28, 1965 in Marion, he married Pamela Kay Wickline and she survives along with two sons, William Scott (Bobbie) McEldowney, and Kearney Gene (Hope) McEldowney; both of Marion, three grandchildren, Brittany Ann McEldowney, William Donavon McEldowney, and Noah Gene McEldowney; five step grandchildren, Trent Avon, Lyrissa Avon, Leann Avon, Kortney Lewis, & Gage Lewis; one great grandchild, Jadon Anthony McEldowney; a step brother, James (Joann) Ault Jr.; and mother-in-law, Mrs. James (Elva) Ault Sr.
Preceding him in death along with his parents were two sisters, Patricia Ann Wetzel and Betty Lou Pierce.
Larry loved to roller skate and in his younger years was the floor manager at the Hy-Way Rollarena. He worked at Tecumseh Products from April of 1965 until its closing and then went to work at Worthington Industries in Upper Sandusky until retiring in April of 2002. He was a longtime member of the Flywheels Car Club of Marion, an organizational member of the Cruise-In for Dyalysis, and co-coordinator of the Royal Family Kids Camp Cruise-In at the Abundant Life Assembly of God Church. Larry's love for persons in need led him to support the Marion Cruise-In for Dylasis and the Royal Family Kids Camp. Larry's son, Scott, opened the door for Larry to be co-coordinator of the Royal Family Kids Camp Cruise-In Around the Cross. His love for children drove him to support the camp which is for abused and neglected children of Marion County and supported by the Abundant Life Assembly of God Church.
Larry's family will greet friends on Tuesday, February 23, from 5-8 p.m. at the Boyd-Born Funeral Home. Services celebrating his life will be conducted by Pastor Doug Ford on Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. in the funeral home. Burial will be at a later date. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Larry's name may be made to the Heart of Ohio Dialysis Center or The Royal Family Kids Camp c/o The Abundant Life Assembly of God Church. The family request that cruisers come in their customary crusing dress to celebrate the life of the "Flyer Man/ First on the Scene".
